Ariasa® is an injectable treatment that regenerates the tissues diminished with age. The patented technique for the mid-face was used in published research by Ariasa founder, Alissa Davis Pace. The research compared the aesthetic enhancement of the face from injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or ReNu amnion allograft. Presently, Ariasa consists of platelet-rich plasma therapy as ReNu amnion allografts are unavailable.

Benefits of Ariasa® - The Ogee Curve Improvement

The midface is the most common area to lose volume and thus show signs of aging in the face. The Ogee curve is a double S-shaped curve along the cheeks that gives contour and dimension to the face. It is best appreciated by looking at the face at a 45° angle (oblique views).

The youthful face has a wide extensive Ogee curve whereas the aging face sees a flattening of this curve, this results in a less contoured cheek, sagging skin and more apparent lines/wrinkles of the face (i.e.- nasolabial folds). This flattening is a combination of bone loss as well as diminished fat pads of the face, particularly the malar fat pad.

The patented technique used in the research study focused on optimizing the placement of the amnion allograft in the midface to regenerate this tissue and restore a more prominent Ogee curve.

The oblique views show the progressive results over a 3 month duration resulting in subtle improvements to this curve and overall appearance of the midface.

What Is Amnion Allograft?

Ariasa® used a cryopreserved liquid form of amniotic fluid and amniotic cells from a company well published in product safety and efficacy. ReNu amnion allograft from Organogenesis, contains cellular growth factors and extracellular matrix components and is meant for office use.

In December of 2020, Organogenesis' ReNu was the first amnion allograft to receive RMAT (regenerative medicine advanced therapy) designation from the FDA. On January 14, 2021, a trial using ReNu for osteoarthritis began under the newly acquired RMAT designation. The study includes a 6 month assessment, of a total of nearly 500 patients enrolled, after injection of the amnion allograft. Organogenesis chose to hold availability of ReNu product outside of this trial in early 2021. Ariasa has an affiliation with Organogenesis and will be delighted to resume treatment with ReNu when it becomes available.

For your knowledge:

Amnion is different than the controversial embryonic allografts. Amnion has been described as “immunologically inert”, meaning there is no resistance or adverse reaction of your own tissues in response to injectable placement of the allograft.

The Ariasa®  Difference

Ariasa represents published research with documented results. All platelet rich plasma (“PRP”) is not the same. Studies have shown that different PRP separation methods may be better for different types of applications. A study by Mazzocca et al. at the University of Connecticut looked at lower vs. higher PRP and white blood cell concentrations from single spin and double spin processes. The researchers investigated how these different types of PRP affected bone, muscle, and tendon cells. Different types of cells respond differently to various types of PRP. Its imperative to use a system targeting soft tissue for maximal aesthetic results.

Researchers have concluded that “more is not necessarily better” when it comes to PRP. A study by Levy and Jacobson comparing different PRP systems (used commonly in aesthetics) showed superiority of particular systems to achieve regenerative results with PRP. Harvest system showed the superiority compared to the other systems in the study and thus was used in the research study for Ariasa.  In addition to the right system, your provider should have knowledge of PRP.  With experience, Alissa  had time to refine her techniques coming from years of follow up with patients of different aesthetic needs and ages.

What Is Amnion Allograft?

Platelet rich plasma is derived from your own blood. After blood is drawn from your arm, it is placed in a machine that will separate the components of the blood to concentrate the platelets. Platelets play a critical role in tissue repair and regeneration. PRP is also packed full of growth factors.

Most commonly PRP is used in the orthopedic field injected for problematic joints and injuries. You may have heard of athletes utilizing the healing properties to expedite their wound healing. In 2014, the use of PRP surfaced in the aesthetic industry finding its regenerative uses beneficial for the aging face, breasts, buttocks, hands and even hair loss.

PRP FAQs

Are all PRP systems the same?

No. As mentioned above, there are few systems that can boast results that are regenerative. Others only offer growth factors with no potential of stem cell attraction and tissue regeneration. Harvest centrifuge with smart prep kits are used with Ariasa and were used in the published research showing improvement in the midface volume. There are comparison studies showing the superiority of this system to others. Years of experience to perfect the techniques mixing of the PRP to have the growth factors slowly release over time and maximizing clinical outcome.

Am I a candidate?

Every patient is a candidate but potential improvements can be varied due to certain factors such as age and the region injected. There are also external factors that can impact the quality of the PRP. Oral steroid medications should be stopped at least 2 weeks prior to procedure. Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen sodium should be discontinued at least 1 week prior to a PRP treatment. If you are prescribed such medications for a condition, consult the prescribing physician prior to scheduling a PRP treatment. If you have a condition called thrombocytopenia (low platelets) you are not an ideal candidate for the procedure.

What's the procedure like?

The day of your procedure it is best to avoid caffeine, have eaten and drank plenty of fluids. A topical numbing is applied to the clean treatment area and blood is drawn. The spinning generally takes 15-20 minutes and your PRP is then extracted and prepped for injecting. After injections, remaining plasma in topically applied and microneedled in to the skin. With the use of lidocaine mixed with PRP and applied topically, the procedure is made more comfortable. The process in its entirety can be from 60-90 minutes. Sun or topical application of anything other than what may be given to you or recommended, should be avoided the day of procedure.

What can I expect after treatment?

You will be red and swollen in the area immediately post procedure. The PRP in itself can appear as a bruise that lasts for up to a week but the swelling starts to dissipate in a few days and can be alleviated by ice. Given the nature of PRP, full results not to be expected until 12 weeks. Subtle changes that indicate tissue growth are best seen in before and after photos so be sure to schedule a follow up at 3 months. Texture changes and scar improvement can be noted as soon as a couple weeks following the procedure. It is crucial to keep the treated area from sun damage.

What are the cosmetic uses of PRP?

The face is the most common area injected with the midface region being the primary target. As we age, this is the number one area to lose volume and thus benefit from potential regeneration. Temples and around the eyes are common areas as well. PRP can be injected in the the “11s” between the brows safely and in to any line or wrinkle of the face. The neck can benefit from PRP treatment. Scars, including older acne or incisional scars can be benefited by PRP. The aged hand will also note a more youthful appearance with PRP treatment. PRP breast and buttocks lifts can yield a more shapely appearance of the breast and/or buttocks in addition to treating stretch marks in those regions. PRP hair restoration is another potential cosmetic option with PRP.
